Being single on Valentine’s Day can be just as satisfying as being in a loving, intimate relationship. Your level of enjoyment as a singleton will largely depend on your frame of mind. It is, therefore, in your best interest to adopt a healthy attitude towards your relationship status. Instead of thinking of your situation as a confirmation of what you lack, think of it as a statement of what you have – independence, strength, and uniqueness. Valentine’s isn’t just for lovers and here are 7 ways you can ensure your day is just as splendid as it should be.
Valentine’s Day is only one solitary day in a year filled with 364 more days. It isn’t the be all and end all of your social calendars and certainly won’t shape who you are as a person. You can choose to enjoy it in any way you see fit. Stay at home, go out, or have friends over. Whatever you do is fine! It really isn’t going to have some strange cosmic influence.
You may be surprised to find out that Valentine’s Day isn’t always romantic even for people who are in happy relationships. You may have been cajoled by the entertainment industry to believe that every couple in the world suddenly becomes happier on Valentines Day. However, for many, it really is just another day separated by gifts.
So you’re single. So are many other people. You are not an anomaly that exists on the fringes! You are like so many other people that happen to be unattached. This just means that you are able to do what you want, when you want, without having to consult another person. The choice is clear! Be single and happy or single and unaware of just how great life can be, regardless of your relationship status.
If your aim is to meet your soul mate, remember that there are 306 days left in the year in which you may very well meet him/her. One Valentine’s Day alone won’t scar you for life. Wallowing in self-pity will only increase the risk that you will become unnecessarily depressed and anxious. Treat yourself to something special. Buy roses, indulge in a spa day and get a pedicure or anything that makes you feel spectacular. Doing something nice for yourself is a sure fire way to remember that you are deserving of great things.
Not only will exercise keep you looking good but it will make you feel great. Go out for a brisk walk, jog, swim, or whatever you prefer. The release of endorphins will help to counter feelings of sadness and allow you to focus on more positive thoughts.
You can opt to forgo Valentine’s Day completely and no one will have any objections. You can save money by not buying someone else a gift because you are not obligated to anyone. This is the perfect opportunity to celebrate your ability to be thrifty on a day of grandiose expectations. Relish in that thought!
So, it is almost that special day again. Spend it how you wish and have some fun. Forget about the “woes” of being single. It’s not a death sentence. It’s just another way of living!
